CollateX/GettingStarted

(Redirected from Dev:GettingStarted)

Getting Started with CollateX Development

Great! You want to contribute to CollateX. So, probably you already know that CollateX is the web services based collation engine that will render all prior stabs at automating text collation futile and silly, to be real. Now you want to know how you can make it even better.

CollateX Development depends on a set of tools: source code, IDE, versioning system etc. We've jotted down the basic steps that lead to a usable development environment on most popular platforms. At this point we can not guarantee this will work in every conceivable platform configuration. But hey you're here as a developer, so figure it out and helps improve the documentation.

Legal Stuff

Well we're giving this to the world, so we need some license. We talked about it, then talked about it some more, then even more. Then we threw dices. CollateX is available as [LINK:LICENSETYPETODO] software.

Our main concern is that we want people to use CollateX freely and openly. You may even build a financial sound business model on it. By all means. But you need to say you're using CollateX. And if you add any extensions to the code base, really do consider sharing them again as open source: the general aim is to progress text tools, and thereby textual scholarship. Please don't let your contribution go to waste by closing of the source.
